Are you looking for a college degree that will allow you to reach your academic goals in a flexible format for your busy life? Liberty University is an accredited online college that will meet your needs for flexibility, program selection, and quality online learning. Whether you are just finishing high school or are returning for a college degree after years in the workplace, Liberty University will help you meet your industry’s ever-increasing needs for higher education.
We pride ourselves on being one of the best online colleges for students needing affordable and flexible online programs. Liberty offers programs in religious studies, science, business, education, and many other areas. If you have never taken an accredited online or residential college course, we only require that you have completed high school. You will demonstrate this by completing an online High School and GED Self-Certification form to comply with federal regulations.
When searching for online schools, it can be difficult to find an accredited online college that accepts professional certificates or gives credit for previous work experience. Because Liberty University is an accredited online college with established credibility, we can offer college credit for many industry certificates and training.
If you have completed nationally-recognized standardized college-credit tests such as CLEP or DANTES exams, or if you have professional training and on-the-job experience, please view our Experience Plus page for information about how you could get college credit toward your degree.
Please note: Credit is subject to program-specific transfer restrictions. See specific program pages for details.
As a Christian college and Virginia’s first Purple Heart University, we are proud of our military service members as they protect our constitutional rights to free exercise of religion. We are proud to be a military-friendly institution and offer college credit for military training as well as many other military benefits for active duty, reserve, National Guard, veterans, military spouses, and current Department of Defense employees.
Please note: Credit is subject to program-specific transfer restrictions. See specific program pages for details.
For students who have previous college experience and want to get started with Liberty University’s online programs for the first time, we require high school completion demonstrated by completing a High School and GED Self-Certification form.* Official college transcripts for any previous accredited online college or residential college for which you received college-level credit are also required.
Unofficial transcripts can be accepted for initial acceptance decisions for students applying to our associate, bachelor’s, and master’s programs provided the student completes a transcript request form so that Liberty can request your official transcripts at no charge. We cannot accept unofficial college transcripts for admission to our online certificate programs, postgraduate programs, or doctoral programs.
*Unaccredited college coursework and courses taken for vocational, non-college purposes will not be needed for Liberty admissions requirements. However, they could be reviewed for possible Experience Plus credit.
Liberty University, as an accredited online college, must have official versions of all previous college credit within 60 days of admission into an online program. Once unofficial or official transcripts are received, Liberty University will complete a transfer evaluation review to see how your courses will apply to your new program. Liberty University has a limit on how many credits may be transferred. Please see the Transfer Student Page for more information about transfer policies.
If you are a returning student to Liberty University, please make sure to speak with an admissions counselor to determine whether you will need to reapply to continue in your chosen program.
If you have not yet completed high school or a GED course, or you are finishing your bachelor’s degree, you may complete a Liberty University application and receive a preliminary acceptance decision. Please note the following important preliminary acceptance policies:
Information on How You Can Apply for Online Courses without Seeking a Degree
If you are temporarily unable to submit important admission requirements for your online Liberty University application, you can register for up to 12 credit hours (four courses) under Liberty University’s non-degree seeking status. Students registering under this status are not allowed to use federal financial aid, but may be eligible to use Military Tuition Assistance (TA), GI Bill® Benefits, or pay out of pocket.
Once all admission requirements have been submitted, the admission department will evaluate your file for the full Liberty University application. Students may be rejected if their admission file does not meet the admission requirements for their specific Liberty University online program.
Not all Liberty University online courses can be registered under the non-degree status. Please speak with an admission counselor to discuss your needs and confirm which courses would be allowed.
